I’ve found some more info on Ebays digital download policy and what’s up about all of that. The information is posted at http://www.ebaychatter.com/the_chatter/2008/03/digital-downloa.html#more
Here are the highlights that I think every TMMS member should pay attention to:
1. “Media that holds digital content, such as a DVD or CD, is permitted for sale on eBay. Sellers may not offer the buyer the option of receiving the [digital ] content via physical media or via digital delivery or electronic transfer. Any product that is offered to the buyer via digital delivery or electronic transfer must be listed using the Classified Ads format.
2. As of March 31st…”any product listing for downloadable digital items that implies or suggests that the item can be received electronically will be a violation.”
The two statements above mean that you cannot imply in your auction ad that the content will be delivered in any other form than by physical delivery (ie. CD or DVD).
I have seen auction ads that are still up saying that the product will be delivered by electronic delivery, email delivery or some other wording.
Don’t do it!
You could lose your Ebay account and it is a bear to get you account back. Ebay is getting tougher and finds ways to block you from ever getting another account once you are banned by them so there is no sense trying to get around this new ruling any other way than offering your product by CD.
If your account is ever suspended by Ebay, then investing only $19 to get back in is worth it. Find out more at http://www.themakemoneyshop.com/ebay_account_suspen
As for the classified ads….well, I have seen links in the ads but I imagine they will get after us for placing links in these ads as well.
What other choice do I recommend?
Set up an account at http://www.siteoodles.com/usfreeads and upgrade to premium. A premium account lets you set up your ads with links and even with PayPal buttons right in them. Plus the ads renew automatically so you create once and let her rip month after month!
A premium account costs only $9.95 a month and you get to post unlimited ads whereas with Ebay it cost this much for only one ad!
Log in and watch the video on USFreeAds in the learning center under the new section called, SELLING ON THE WEB TUTORIALS, to see how to create your HTML, direct linking ad - it’s easy once you know how.
Don’t be dependent upon Ebay anymore!
